I went to my ortho doc yesterday for my one year followup on my hip replacement.  Now this is a very large group of doctors, approx. 20, and the reception desk has 4 attendants.  At each station was a black ball on a stick.  When I asked what it was I was told that due to insurance fraud issues each patient has to show a valid picture ID and their picture is taken and added to their electronic file.  When I was taken back to the exam room there on the computer screen was my picture.  Has anyone else had this experience?

No, this is the first I have heard of it.  Hope we won't be getting identification chips inserted someday.  I'll refuse!

My hospital does some of this.

As a patient, you are "tracked" by computer at every "station" you pass.

It could the triage station for the ER, the first professional who sees you, the doctor who sees you, etc.
It's getting so that the nurses spend more time at their computers than with patients!

And yes, there will be some sort of chips implanted.

Just like "The Manchurian Candidate," and "Left Behind!"

Peace and Blessings!

this happened to me when I went to an eye surgeon. I was really surprised and they said it was for insurance purposes. I have never encountered this with a people md again but it makes you wonder when your vet requires a photo of your pet as well!
