Hi Guys, its been awhile since i visited this forum, my name Eric i was Diagnose CKD last September of 2008 and started Peritoneal Dialysis August 2009 so its been 4 months or so, they put my Catheter last July 2009 had to wait for 3 weeks to start the dialysis at home, after 3 weeks the catheter did not work no draining , something stock inside my catheter my nurse at Davita try everything to make it work NOTHING at all. So the team decided to replace the catheter again and had to go every procedure again, I was really frustrated and disappointed and scared and so many other feelings involve. So anyways, had to go back to the hospital they remove my catheter and replace it with new one. Yehey it works..... im on dialysis for 4 months But, something happen again Last December  18, suddenly my catheter malfunction again, no draining no filling nothing. So again my nurse told to Heparin in the bag for few days and lets see what happen. NOTHING!... it was on the weekend i did that, so I called my nurse again tell her what the situation is. Unfortunately she called all the doctors their are all on holidays. So  she advise me to go the emergency room already. I went and I got admitted last December 21, and they decided to put me on temporary Hemo-dialysis so they put catheter on my neck on the Dec 23 I started the Hemo-dialysis I was so nervous because i really dont like blood specially my blood. I had no choice I have to suck it up. The next day they decided to replace my peritoneal catheter and at the same replace the temporary catheter in my neck somewhat permanent, because i have to go to dialysis Center after I recover. I was in the Hospital for 5 days and I spent my Xmas in the hospital bed alone, and really upset and frustrated and very lonely. Anyways that my story. Feel free to comment!

Eric!  I am so sorry of your ordeal! The holidays of all time, although anytime is not a good time.  Do they know why this kept happening?  I had never done PD. Many on here have. How are you feeling with the hemo treatments?

So glad to see you back here at kidneyspace. Welcome back!

So sorry to hear that happened to you Eric.  Especially during the holidays.  When I went on PD I was told that placement of the catheter can be tricky since the surgeon can't see exactly where it is going to go inside the peritoneum and it is possible that it can move.  I don't know if that is your case, but it is worth asking.  You should make sure you are getting the answers as to why this has happened so many times and if PD is the right modality for you.  I know hemo can be difficult, I have done that as well, especially if you are squeamish about blood.  But if you are doing well on hemo, maybe try to sleep, or watch tv, or read or something that may take your mind and attention off of the blood.  Good luck to you.
