I am thinking about having this procedure because my eyes have turned 40.   Grin

I find myself always looking for my glasses.

Has anyone had this procedure done and do you feel it was worth it?

I know 5 people of various ages who have had the surgery and none of them would recommend anyone to have the surgery.  They have had problems with tear ducks, night vision and most end up still having to wear reading glasses.

Update:  I went for my free evaulation and they said I take to many meds to be a good candidate.  I think they are worrying about the healing time of the eye.

Back to glasses...

When I hit 40, I had to get reading glasses.  Now I am 46 and the reading glasses are not enough.  Have mono vision...one eye far sighted and one eye near sited.  Didn't get glasses, end up getting contacts...only added fuel to my fire...my contacts didn't want to stay in the eyes, they kept popping out. I was ready to throw in the towel, but the Doctor talked me into restasis...for dry eyes...a little help, giving it time now...but tried again wearing the contacts over the weekend, still popping out...should have gotten good ole' regular glasses.

Welcome to the 40's.

Years ago i had RK--the first surgery out there to "fix the eyes". For me it was a complete disaster. I'm glad to hear they were honest with you and told you that you are NOT a candidate. That was my problem--they just saw dollar signs--since then every eye doc has said to me who the hell told you that you were a candidate for this surgery.

I was on way too many meds. My eyes did not heal. In fact initially i could see better and as time passed so did the good vision.
Of course Lasix is much more advanced then what I had done in 1994.

Only thing it did for me is that I can see my alarm clock in the middle of the night without glasses!!

My optometrist HATES Lasix surgery!

The procedure thins the surface of the eyeball and makes it more susceptible to increased inner eye pressure which may lead to glaucoma.

This is in addition to the side effects mentioned by the other posters.

I've worn glasses since I was 6 years old.

In 2001, I started with contacts, which I can't stand!

But, I do see better.

At this point, because of Prednisone, it looks like I'll be having cataract surgery early next year.

Sometimes it seems that EVERYTHING is a pain in the...butt!

Peace and Blessings!
